Mr. Alvarez's principal expertise is in matters concerning trademarks and patents, copyrights, domain names, unfair competition, advertising, technology transfer, licensing and franchises, sports legislation and contracting. He was a member of the committee responsible for the drafting of the Unfair Competition Law (1983-1984). Moreover, he has held the positions of director and secretary of Asociación Peruana de Propiedad Industrial (1987-1991), and has represented Peru before the Executive Committee of Asociación Interamericana de la Propiedad Industrial - ASIPI (1992-1994). He has also served as advisor to the Head of the Distinctive Signs Office of Instituto de Defensa de la Competencia y Protección de la Propiedad Intelectual (Indecopi) [National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property], in the drafting and review of the Industrial Property Law currently in force.
