| Experience Mr. Lengua Balbi's principal expertise is in civil and criminal litigation, as well as in contentious-administrative proceedings and civil rights actions (amparo). One of his most successful cases was his defense of the banks and financial companies in the court proceeding initiated following the government's attempt to expropriate them in 1987. Moreover, he has represented bankers and businessmen in well-known criminal proceedings. Mr. Lengua Balbi has been a professor of Criminal Law and Civil Procedure Law at the School of Law of Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (1964-1978), pro-secretary of the Reform Committee of the Civil Code (1966-1967), and professor of Civil Litigation at the School of Law of Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (1966-1978). He has also served as recording secretary at the Third Plenary Meeting of the Committee in charge of Drafting the Model Criminal Code for Latin America at the Lima Meetings (1967), secretary of the School of Law of Pontificia Universidad Católica (1967-1970), and member of the Reform Committee of the Civil Procedural Code (1970-1973).
