Experience

Mr. Coppero has expertise in Mining Law, Environmental Law, and in many legal matters concerning Natural Resources in general.

His experience is mainly focused on mining and environmental matters as well as in corporate and commercial issues regarding natural resources, the counseling on environmental aspects, the initiation of administrative procedures and the handling of permits, licenses and authorizations for the use and/or exploitation of natural resources before the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the Ministry of the Environment and the Supervising Agency of Private Investment in Energy and Mining (OSINERGMIN), among other public entities.

Likewise, he acts as counselor to both national and foreign mining companies regarding the analysis and drafting of different structures for the development and/or operation of mining projects on their different stages, as from the acquisition of mining concessions, due diligences, structuring mining contracts to the acquisition of surface lands for the development of mining activities and counseling regarding community relations and social responsibility matters.

He has acted as in-house attorney at the Legal Vice Presidency of Sothern Peru Copper Corporation, Sucursal del Peru. In such company he has rendered in-house counseling on mining, environmental and contractual matters, in Lima as well as in the operation sights (Toquepala, Cuajone and Ilo). He currently acts as external counselor for such company and takes part in the legal counseling team for the company’s new projects (“Tia Maria” and “Los Chancas”) as well as in all exploration projects.

He is currently professor of “Mining, Oil and Gas Law” at the law school of Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) and has acted as a member of the team of analysts of “Sociedad Libre”, a publication of the “Law and Economics Society” of that same school.
