Mr. Benavides' expertise is in Mining and Environmental Law, as well as in foreign investment, Commercial and Corporate Law, and in the fiscal planning of operations in Peru.
Most of his practice is focused in counseling Peruvian and foreign companies - principally pertaining to the mining industry - in the structuring, negotiation and execution of agreements for the exploration, development and exploitation of natural resources. He is also experienced in negotiating shareholders' agreements.
He provides general corporate and commercial counsel to different companies. He has participated in several privatization proceedings called by the Peruvian State for the sale of its assets. He has also intervened in the acquisition and sale of a variety of mining projects and companies, having been actively involved in the design and implementation of the respective strategies for the purchase or sale of the assets or companies.
Since 2003, he serves as Professor of the Mining, Oil and Gas Law class taught at the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), where he previously served as assistance professor of the same course.
