ALERT - FISHERY

The first fishery season for anchovy is authorized in the southern zone

Through Ministerial Resolution No. 249-2020-PRODUCE published on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, the start of the first fishery season for anchovy (Engraulis ringens) and white anchovy (Anchoa nasus) was authorized in the southern zone between the 16°00′ South Latitude and the southern end of the maritime domain, for the period August December 2020 and with a Total Maximum Allowable Catch Limit LMTCP-South (quota) of 435,000 tons. The activities shall start at 00:00 on August 1 and shall end in compliance with the quota or December 31 and only registered and authorized vessels with the Maximum Catch Limit per Vessel – LMCE shall participate, whose list shall be published by PRODUCE.

The same regulation provides for the immediate suspension of the fishery activities authorized above, for the area between 17°00’ South Latitude to the extreme south and until IMARPE recommends its lifting. In order for the recommendation to be issued, an Exploratory Fishery is authorized in said area and from 5 miles away from the coast and thus update the information on the distribution of the anchovy, size structure and the incidence of other species in that area. This exploratory fishery shall begin at 00:00 on August 20 and shall be for 5 calendar days and vessels that have a valid fishery permit for the southern zone may participate. What is caught in this exploratory fishery shall be deducted from the LMCE of each vessel respectively.
