ALERT - FISHERY

Catch quotas for yellow tail and mackerel resources are established for 2021

By Ministerial Resolution No. 016-2021-PRODUCE published today, January 20, 2021, the catch limits (quotas) were established for the largest scale vessels for yellow tail (Trachurus murphyi) and mackerel (Scomber japonicus peruanus) resources for the year 2021.

The total quota established for yellow tail is 65,410 MT of which 33,410 MT correspond to direct catch quota and 32,000 MT to a by-catch reserve of this resource in mackerel catch. In the case of mackerel, the total quota established is 68,081 MT, of which 46,081 MT is for direct catch quota and 22,000 MT to a by-catch reserve of this resource in yellow tail catch. It is provided that the extractive activities of the artisanal fleet are maintained on a continuous basis.

These catch quotas may be modified after a report from the Peruvian Sea Institute – IMARPE, based on the monitoring of these fisheries, the environmental conditions and the availability of these resources.
