Apostille procedure for public documents processed between the People’s Republic of China and Peru

China acceded to the Convention for the Elimination of the Requirement of Legalization of Foreign Public Documents on March 8, 2023. This Convention has been in force for the People’s Republic of China since November 7, 2023 and will continue to apply to the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions of China. In this sense, public documents issued in the PRC and sent to Peru and/or those issued in Peru and sent to the PRC have been exempted from consular legalization by both Peru and the PRC, having to use the respective apostille instead.

Apostille processing procedure for documents issued in the PRC to be sent to Peru:

In the People’s Republic of China, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the entity in charge of apostilling public documents issued in China. Said Ministry has delegated the Foreign Affairs Offices of the respective local governments to be in charge of this process. For details on the specific procedures and requirements for applying for an Apostille in the PRC, please refer to the website of the Chinese Consular Service. Apostille processing procedure for documents issued in Peru that will be sent to China:

The in Peru, it is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the entity in charge of apostilling public documents issued in Peru.

The requirements to obtain the apostille are:

Presentation of the original document indicating that it will be sent to the PRC.
Payment of S/ 31.00 Soles.

Important:
– It is not necessary that the document is translated into Chinese language, but in case the user requires it, the official translation must be apostilled.
– Only translations made by sworn translators are apostilled.
– The documents must have the chain of certifications, if necessary, before being apostilled (For example: in the case of a document issued by a Peruvian university, the document must be previously certified by SUNEDU).
