Labeling of pesticides and disinfectants for domestic, industrial and public health use according to D.S. 031-2023-SA

The regulation approved by Supreme Decree No. 031-2023-SA establishes specific information that must be included in the labeling of pesticides and disinfectants for domestic, industrial and public health use.

Article 11 of the regulation states that the labeling must comply with the following:

  • Language: Spanish
  • GHS or GHA: Hazard classification, precautionary statements, warnings, pictograms, among other data, must be in accordance with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS).

This information must be in accordance with what is stated in the safety data sheet, composition, toxicological tests, efficacy studies and the rest of the technical documentation submitted in the application for health authorization. The WHO hazard classification (color bands) is not accepted.

  • General information: Must contain at least the following:

  • Use of stickers: imported products may use stickers firmly affixed indelibly to the primary or secondary packaging.

In addition to the above information, labeling must also contain specific information, according to the nature of the product:

  • Pesticides: Name of pests and the time of action or efficacy according to efficacy studies.
  • Disinfectants: Name of the microorganisms and the time of action or efficacy according to microbial confrontation tests.
