FISHERIES AND AQUACULTURE DECLARED IN A STATE OF EMERGENCY
Through Supreme Decree No. 012-2026-PRODUCE, published on August 23, 2026, the fisheries and aquaculture subsectors were declared in a state of emergency for a period of 120 calendar days to implement immediate and necessary exceptional measures and response actions addressing the effects of the 2026–2027 El Niño phenomenon.
The Ministry of Production will approve the corresponding “Emergency Plan” within 15 business days. The Plan will include lines of action concerning scientific research and measures for the sustainable use of hydrobiological resources, administrative and sanitary measures to facilitate the adaptation and continuity of fisheries activities, access to financing, and facilities for the payment of fines, among other measures.
