Úrsula Zavala specializes in environmental law. She works in the Natural Resources and Environment practice area.
She is considered one of the pioneers in the practice of environmental law in Peru, for over 20 years she has assisted companies in the strategic management of their environmental obligations, as well as in regulatory compliance and the promotion of sustainable practices.
Her work ranges from strategic environmental planning to permitting, waste management, climate change management, biodiversity conservation, environmental quality standards, the circular economy, and advocacy in complex administrative proceedings. She is recognized for her comprehensive, strategic, and deeply technical approach.
Úrsula has advised on landmark environmental cases, including the country's first major environmental fractionation case, which she not only led but also won, paving the way for the interpretation and application of this concept in Peru. She has also sponsored an international arbitration before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), affirming her authority in the international area and her ability to intervene in highly technical and legally complex situations.
She is an Officer of the Environment Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA), where she actively contributes to the discussion of global environmental policies and comparative regulatory frameworks.
Úrsula was part of the founding committee of the Peruvian section of Women in a Legal World, and today chairs its Peruvian chapter, where she promotes initiatives that seek to make more women lawyers visible, connect with them, and support them in their professional development.
